Self-Guided Drives
Self-Guided drives are, as the name implies, drives that you can take at your own pace and schedule. Drive summaries and directions are available here.
There was a request from the first Buggies and Bridges event for some Self Guided simple relaxing drives where the driver didn’t have to spend time reading written instructions. They wanted to explore on their own and be able to enjoy the surrounding scenery more instead of watching the maps. Thus the idea for the GPS drives.. GPS DrivesThe GPS drives listed here are more relaxed drives where the driver and passenger both can see and enjoy a mix of rural farmlands, wooded areas, and small towns. Included are several noteworthy stops such as Shady Maple Smorgasbord, Stoltzfus Family Style Restaurant, Intercourse Canning Company store, the Strasburg Railroad, and the PA Railroad Museum. The actual driving times are not that long, but be prepared to enjoy some quality time at the stops listed. All you do to enjoy the drive is to put each waypoint in your GPS and drive to that location. Follow the GPS and enjoy the drive. From the Eden Hotel you plug in destination 1, and when you get there you plug in destination 2, and so forth following your GPS. When you get to each waypoint, simply enter the next waypoint and off you go. No maps to worry about and no way to get lost. Just enjoy the drive and the scenery. Both drives start and end at the Eden Resort, when YOU are ready to do it. Note 1: Each waypoint is listed by a street address and the GPS Latitude and Longitude degrees. Use whichever is easier for you. Note 2: Degrees are marked with an o. For Example 40.09890o is 40.09890 degrees) Note 3: There will be a limited number of directions for these drives in the hospitality suite just off the Eden's main lobby. Help us by printing the directions using the files provided on this site. Attention Garmin GPS users:
We've created Garmin .gpx files for both of the featured covered bridge drives and some of the self-guided drives. If your Garmin has routing capability you can download the files and copy them to your Garmin. Go to Garmin GPX Files for more info. |
